Single release day

The first day a new project steps into the outside world is always exciting and West Wind is now the first of the Cornucopia project pieces to break out be heard and also seen, huge thanks to Vive Le Rock magazine for giving the video a premiere on their website and for calling us Psychonauts!

"Long-serving Manchester psychonauts THE SPEED OF SOUND are back with a brand new video which they're premiering with Vive Le Rock!

Described as "recklessly fast and invigorating rock and roll, borrowing a Bo Diddley beat cunningly melded with a Wagnerian horn section," 'West Wind' is the lead track from the band's forthcoming new album.

“Lyrically this is a protest song," says singer, guitarist and songwriter John Armstrong. "A metaphor for the dominance of the all-pervading major label ‘music industry’ onslaught, snowplowing independent artists out of the way.”

Out today through L.A. label Big Stir Records, 'West Wind' is available to stream/download here."

Extended 12" Single - Double-A-Side

Happy Birthday to Museum Of Tomorrow and A New Single... So, this is Birthday week for our Museum Of Tomorrow album and astoundingly it is still getting multiple daily radio play twelve months on from release, it really is incredible that it is still current - Radio TFSC in Germany placed one of the tracks in their current top 25 last week. Amazing.

And: To mark the anniversary we have a new release!

A double A-sided single with the full version of Virtual Reality (the album of course contains only 'Part 2') and an extended version of Charlotte, both tracks are well over six minutes and simply wouldn't fit on the vinyl LP so they form an appendix to the album and are what a 12" single used to be.

Release day is Friday 16th September. So get your fill of Future Retro Modernism over on Big Stir Records bandcamp page: https://bigstirrecords.bandcamp.com/album/double-a-extended-12-single or take your pick of streaming platform here: https://orcd.co/thespeedofsound-doublea

Keep It Quiet

Keep It Quiet, no don't do that, shout it from the rooftops! It is here: The new single is No.82 in the Big Stir Records catalogue is here (scroll to 82) released into the world to fend for itself and have adventures of its own. As we welcome its twin themes of climate change plus the metaphor of the human relationship with Mother Nature as domestic violence, all set to a pulsating buoyant bouncing rhythm, here, is the video:

Busy in lockdown

Strange Days, as the say - and they are; we hope you're adapting to the circumstances.
We've been a little quiet lately, but its because we've been too busy to tell any one about it. We have a new single coming again on the lovely Big Stir Records of LA. We've been making video too, which is not easy when you can't get anyone together or film anything outside your house. But here's a teaser shot from one of the videos, we've edited in a little bit of film taken from a gig in back September, it feels so much longer ago than six months since then:
To add to that, we're still here and the website shop and Bandcamp are still open, the post is still going out and still arriving so don't be shy about picking up some limited edition independent music on vinyl or any of the other exciting items we have for you.

The Day The Earth Caught Fire
Shadow Factory
Tomorrow's World
Love
I Don't Want Your Attentions

Next gig is Manchester on 16th November... more updates soon!

Sorry for being a bit slack with blog updates this year, its just too busy to keep up with it... back shortly!

A first glimpse at the new single...

Test pressing arrived and approved, they sound great... so Production Is Go, and we will have a new 7inch double-A-side single. Yes, with a download option too.
Full colour label and picture sleeve in the production run; white labels are to test the metalwork for the pressings and these sound sweet; the Rickenbacker crunches and chimes, the Hofner violin bass does its punchy thing in the lower stave and the drums bang in a big way, with really immediate vocals. Excellent presence. Its got a live sound like we're actually in the room, ...which we were when we were listening to it. Music is a physical presence and that's why we make physical music, independently with our own label.

Single release date is still to be confirmed, depending on actual production time and there is a release party gig to be announced too.
All releases are exciting, but...
This one is a bit special for another reason too... more on that later...

Slower, longer and a different feel. Not just a remix with the guitar part changed this is a completely separate recording. Everything has changed...

Recorded during the Everything Changes sessions, this single augments the album and effectively turns it into the deluxe version. All four tracks for £1.
