There's No One There is a strangely uplifting anthem of misery and angst, written in 1983 it predates The Speed Of Sound and has been in the live set since the
beginning. The world can be a dark place, but when the tide is too strong just concentrate on staying afloat
and never worry about something you can't do anything about etc, etc, etc. Enough of that – play
the song now:

There's No One There
It seems there's nothing I can depend on
There's no one I can rely onI can't even try to escape
I know I'm trapped and I know I'm alone
There's no one there, there's no one there
I can't do anything in the state I'm in
It'd help to talk but no one's listening
I know I'm slowly losing my mind
I know I'm trapped and I know I'm alone
There's no one there, there's no one there
Depressions's got a hold on me
Nothing I can do can set me free
I can't even try to escape
I know I'm trapped I'm on my own
There's no one there, there's no one there
There's no way out of this abyss, there's no escape from this dream-scape
There's no release from this quagmire, there's no rescue because the fates conspire
There's no one there, there's no one there
There's no way out of this abyss, there's no escape from this dream-scape
There's no release from this quagmire, there's no rescue because the fates conspire
There's no one there, there's no one there
It seems there's nothing I can depend on
There's no one I can rely on
I can't even try to escape
I know I'm trapped and I know I'm alone
There's no one there, there's no one there
John Armstrong August 1983
